A Father’s Day Story

A young couple and their little girl are walking back to their room at Disney’s All-Star Resort. The girl is crying. A Disney security guard walks up to the family to see if they are alright.

The mother explains that the girl lost her autograph book somewhere in the Magic Kingdom and it had Mickey and Minnie’s autograph. The guard takes down their information and room number and tells the little girl not to worry, he will find it for her and bring it back.

The mom and dad appreciative of the gesture, takes the girl back to their room for a much needed night of sleep. The next morning, the family hears a knock on their hotel room door. It is the friendly security guard from the night before…and he has what seems to be the girls autograph book.

He hands it to the girl, and when she opens it she finds not only Mickey and Minnie’s autograph, but Donald, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale, all of the Princesses and in fact EVERY PAGE is filled with every possible autograph from every Disney character!!!

The security guard tells the now beaming little girl that he had spoke with Mickey…who was the one to find the autograph book. Mickey took it to all of his good friends and asked them to sign it, which they did, then brought it to the guard and asked him to bring it back to the little girl.

The family, overjoyed and quite stunned, thanked the guard as he walk away. That security guard was no ordinary security guard…he was my Dad.

He had purchased an autograph book just like the one the little girl lost and after his shift was over went to every character and asked them to sign until the book was full.

That was the kind of man he was…and the man I continue to strive to be. I miss him so much and honor him this Father’s Day.

Happy Father’s Day to all of the dad’s out there. I hope you have a wonderful day.

My Dad…Delbert “Gene” Tabor, the greatest security guard at Walt Disney World EVER!!!
